    Puppy diet causing stool problems?
Would be most grateful for a response to this query as soon as possible if anyone can advise please.
My nine week old Cavalier puppy has been kept strictly to the diet which the breeder advised and which is included in the Cavalier guide book. He enjoyed his food for the first few days and his stool was fine and well formed, but during the past couple of days it has become almost liquid and on one occasion I observed a spot of blood in the stool.
The diet consisted of meals four times daily which included rusk warmed with goats milk, honey, cooked mince, scrambled egg and soaked puppy nuggets. He is never given treats as I do not wish to upset his digestive system. He is very fit and happy apart from this, but it nevertheless concerns me greatly.

I would slowly phase out everything except a dry puppy chow. Modern dog chows are carefully formulated to give dogs the complete and balanced diet they need. Adding anything else is very likely to ruin the careful balance and do more harm than good. Perhaps in the past adding stuff like that may have helped, but not now.

I don't like the blood in the stool. Call the vet Monday. Ask about the blood, soft stool, and diet.
