Im a virgin and not in a hurry to have sex. However, I've come to an age (18) where I'm worrying a little about what it would be like, since I feel ready to have sex but I am extremely self conscious.

What I really worry about is pubic hair... now I know that it's all a preference whether it should be shaved or not, and I personally prefer not to shave it or trim it because I find that it can get very itchy if I do so. (I've tried trimming).

So I was just wondering, is pubic hair a turn-off? Should I be worried about whether my guy will find it disgusting?

And if it really is better that I trim it, how can I do so to prevent itching? :(

I read on this site that it is possible to use hydrogen peroxide after shaving to prevent those little bumps that itch. It may help after trimming as well. I think, if a guy is turned off by anything about my body hair, he can either stare at magazine, rent a porn film or shave his own crotch. Daily shaving is best.

All the guys I've ever known since I was a teenager with a pet dinosaur liked pubic hair on their women. Otherwise, they said they felt like they were with a little girl, and really wanted to be with a grownup woman.

The upkeep for daily shaving would be too irritating and time-consuming.

I shave when I feel like it.

Sometimes I surprise my husband by being bare, or mostly bare... sometimes I let it grow for a couple months and trim it when it gets annoying.

As far as trimming goes---use a nail scissors, and don't trim too close. It takes longer, but (I think) it looks better and absolutely doesn't itch.

Pubic hair certainly shouldn't be a turn-off to anyone ; we all have it. You can trim it if you like but I don't recommend shaving it completely.

I'm an old guy. I like it hairy. However, I think younger people like it bare. I think younger guys shave their chests, too. Ouch. I never did that.

The cool thing about sex is that you can ask the guy what HE likes and then do it to please him? After all, his tastes are much more important than mine.

I'm an old fashioned type. I agree with Wondergirl, some men may think they have sex with young girl. By the way, please don't rush to have sex. I congratulate you at 18 still a virgin! If you're ready, share your virginity with the one you love, not just any body -- see how old fashion I am. One more thing, please don't get drunk and then you lost your virginity with some stranger -- what an awful memory to keep for the rest of your life. I was a virgin and have sex with a virgin too that later I married -- we treasure it, probably till the day we die!

Pubic hair (as well as underarm hair) is there for a reason. Both these areas produce aromas that are stimulating to some members of the opposite sex, and the hair improves the clinging power of the aromas... many times on an unconscious level. In addition, the pubic area is very prone to chafing if people engage in intercourse(which is apparently a lost art these days)!

My opinion, keep the pubic hair and before you have sex for the first time, get on birth control pills which are(were in my day) about 100% effective if you follow the instructions religiously. ;) Sex is ABOUT **YOUR** PLEASURE, and don't forget that. When you start to think about how you can please him, you have wandered off into passive-good-girl mode which is antithetical for fabulous female orgasmic sex.

Well I have to say that from my experience as sexually active and from your generation all the guys that I have been with prefer it shaved. I will not be with a guy that has pubic hair because I feel dirty. I started shaving mine for that same reason when I was probably 12 or 13.

It is deffenantly all about your preference though. If it itches or iritates you to shave don't do it. I am one of those weird people that shaves my arms and legs and pubes and everything so I can honestly say I am probably OCD about it. If your guy can't respect that you don't want to shave then he is not the guy for you. Also hold on to your virginity as long as you can or feel necessary. If you feel ready then you probably are but if you give it to someone that doesn't mean everything to you and that respects you it is possible that you will regret it the rest of your life.

My man likes it well trimmed. Not too bushy all over the place. I sometimes surprise him with bare but since it itches I only do it like once a month. So it's up to your partner.

If you wanted to trim your pubic area, a good tip is to use a lady shaver, the type of thing you might use on your legs or under your arm, just "lightly" run over the hair, you will hear when the hair is being cut, this way you can have it as short as you like.

Hairless is in at the moment. That will change back, and forth, and back again. My grandpa used to shave his armpits. There is an old bugs bunny cartoon where the bunny shaves his pits.

But when women went to have babies, they had their pubes shaved, back in the early seventies and before. Doctors agreed that hair harbors bacteria and can not be sterilized. Later studies showed that both mothers and their babies suffered from more infections when pubes were shaved prior to delivery. Shaving is, in a way, messing with Mother Nature.

Pubic hair in its unkempt state on most women can be a huge turnoff for many men. I do say most women because it depends on its density and growth pattern as it varies a lot from woman to woman, and does vary depending on ethnic background with certain Asians and native Americans having the least expansive growth pattern. But generally speaking the cave women look went out of fashion decades ago.

If you keep it up ever 2 or 3 days and use a good blade and quality shaving gell after washing with hot soapy water the itching thing quickly goes away once you become accustomed to it which takes little time. Keeping it up every 2 or 3 days at most will keep the itching away.

Wow, I divorced a man who wanted me to shave. But I'm glad that smoothy has a happy marriage. I am happily married to a cave man. That's the whole point, compatibility. Talk to your partner about it. The nice thing about hair is that it grows back.

I'd say shave it , or just don't let it go wild really but itchy... I shave every single day and never get itchy... weird but maybe moisturize or something afterwards if its itchy or use a brand new razor or something, but really its up to you and definitely don't rush into sex with just anyone beacause if you do, you'll probably regret it later and good for you for still being a virgin.
