    My dog eats her poop
I have a 3 year old female German Shepherd Dog. She is healthy physically and emotionally. Happy, active and playful.
She has a disturbing habit. She eats her stool. (about 50-60% of the time). Only Her stool; not the other dog's stool. Not the cat's. This has been going on for the last 6 months or so. The vet says it could be behavioral (I don't think so; I've video'd her - she does it whether I'm here or not) or something missing from her diet - yet she is on a great food and gets supplements as well... so what the heck?

This is a tough, poorly understood problem. The best thing is to clean it up before she has a chance if you can. My Gretchen would immediately turn around and have her Tootsie Rolls warm. Besides, through the winter she loved the leaf covered garden where even if I was out there, I couldn't find them.

You could try food additives, the home remedies of pineapple juice or canned pumpkin, and the commercial products Deter and Forbid.

If you are feeding a ''great'' chow, you shouldn't need supplements. In fact, they are likely to do more harm than good. Modern chows are carefully formulated to provide the complete and balanced diet dogs need. Adding this or that will only mess up the careful balance.
