Should I go to a doctor about this?
A few weeks ago I was outside with my dad and there was ice everywhere. I was about to leave for school and when I walked outside I slipped on the steps. At first my back and my backside was hurting but it doesn't hurt anymore. I also fell on my left elbow. Every time I touch my elbow it hurts. Should I go to a doctor about this? I'm worried.

If this happened a few weeks ago and it's still hurting, yes, you should go to the doctor.

But what will happen if I don't go to a doctor? Will it get worse?

Hun, we can't tell you that because we don't know what is wrong. We know you hit your elbow, and we know that the pain has not gone away... but without doing an x-ray or an exam on the elbow itself, we can't tell you what is wrong, nor can we tell you if it will get worse, or get better on its own.

If it has been hurting this long, you should be seen by a doctor.

If it's been three weeks, it could get worse. It could get better. But, we don't really know here. We aren't doctors. Even if we were, there is no way for one of us to physically examine your elbow.

To put your mind at rest, the best thing that you could do would be to go to the doctor.

Are you afraid of going to the doctor?

Yeah I'm afraid of the doctor. It only hurts when I touch it but I guess I'll go to the doctor.

    R,

Understand that many people are afraid of the doctor. It is very common, and doctors know this. Us nurses know it too.

Can I ask why you are afraid?

I agree with the advise given above. There is nothing you have said here that could not be said to a doctor. You may have a worse injury than you think. It's always better to have it checked out by a professional. Could your Dad take you? Would he explain what happened and the reason for your concern?
