AOL or America OnLine is an ISP (Internet Service Provider), if you use AOL as your ISP then you need to leave everything on your computer.

If you don't it can be safely removed via the add/remove link in the control panel.
    Start > Conytol Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

Scan down the lsit ubtil you find AOL and click remove.

America OnLine is a proprietary content provider. Its not really an ISP in my opinion since it doesn't provide direct access to the Internet. You can only access AOL's proprietary content using their client software which then provides a gateway to the Internet.

If you go to aol.com you can find out more about what it offers.
