Hi I'm just wondering. I have a female syrian hamster and she is 8 weeks roughly mmmm
She is vey nervous and she has bit me once but I want to tame her. Do you know why they make growling noises because she is doing that when she bites the bars and scratches.
Plus I want to get her used to her ball and not be scared how do I do that
Can you help me
I have raised many of these. They can be tricky (I think you may have their spelling incorect). Any way they tend to be a little aggressive and quick to bite. I have had many sweet ones and quite a few aggressive ones. Just takes time and a strong pair of gloves.
A hamster biting the bars is a BAD sign! Ts the sign of a bored hamster. A bored hamster is a destructive and potentially aggressive one. Provide your hamster with a assorment of chews. Allso buy a food with a variety of different seeds and little cat and dog food kibbles. Many hamster love sunflower seens so I would suggest buying some bulk seeds for it. Peanuts are also good especially in the shell. Give it some privacy as well and buy it a huse to sleep in. A wooden one acts a chew toy also.
Always remember that a hamster is nocturnal which meens playing with it during the day is not a wise descion. The evening and twilight hours are best and staying up to play with it is also good. Make sure it has an outlet for its energy ushc as a wheel and letting it come pout and run in a ball is also good. Hamsters can be exspensive because all these things tend to not be cheap.

P.S. Larger cages are good but keep bar spacing small. Fresh veggeis like carrot are a godsend for small animals as well as fresh water
My sister has a really wild female syrian hamster and when we first brought her home she wriggled and bit and gnawed a hole in the box we had been given to take her home in, my sister was bitten by her and is sometimes scared to hold her, my mum is not scared and the hamster is fine with her, I think that all you need to do is not be afraid and try and get the hamster used to you because animals can sense when you are nervous or afraid. As for the wheel, put her in and leave her in for a while whilst watching her carefully, my sisters other hamster was in the wheel for ten minutes wandering what to do but once he figured it out he took to it straight away and now it is his favorite place to be in, one of my mice was exactly the same with a wheel.
First of all have you ever heard that Female hamsters are worse then Males? Not that bad but they grow a bit fiercer and easliy bite you getting aggitated and annoyed more because there sensitive but males stay docile and are more laid back such as my hamster.Quote:

Also you need more gnawing toys in your cage if its biting the bars! Though I have a cage with no bars it's a plastic box lid and only a bar lid at the top. Which is good because he can't chew the sides I have a lot of wood which he gnaws in the cage.
Well I have always been told that you should leave a hamster (or in my case a mouse) for a day after you have got them or they will be scared and panicy and some (or so I have heard) make themselves ill with fright, did you leave your hamster for a day after you got it, piglet1996? If not that might be one of the reasons. All you have to do is not be afraid of the hamster.
