1997 civic honda speedometer not working
Just last week, the speedometer on my 97 Honda Civic DX started malfunctioning. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When it does work, it looks like there is no problem at all. So basically it's either at 0 or at the correct speed.

I have read about the vss but where is the VSS located on my model car with a manual transmission? What is the correct procedure for determining what the exact problem is?

. The VSS grounds through the ECM; therefore, clean the main ECM ground on the thermostat housing first.

. Check all under-dash fuses with a test light or multimeter.

. Remove and clean 3-P VSS connector (2 bolts), which should be located on top of the transmission (close to the firewall).

If problem continues, replace the VSS. Should the problem persist, replace the speedometer or printed circuit board.
