If they're that old, from your childhood, I'd say that they're pretty permanent scars. I wish there was an easier way, but the only way is probably laser treatments or surgery with your dermatologist.
    Where are your scars located?

Scars fade over time, but some scars become permanent and would have to be treated by a dermatologist. Try using over-the-counter lightening creams containing 2% hydroquinone or kojic acid on the effected areas to help fade the scars. Also, you can use alpha hydroxy creams or lotions. Apha hydroxy products will exfoliate your skin and remove dead skin cells, which can improve the appearance of scars. If you don't see any improvement from these over-the-counter products, please consult a dermatologist for a treatment option.

Try getting a doctor to prescribe 4% hydroquinone for you. Use it at nights it might be a bit tideous be cause you have to apply it with a cottonswab to the marks but its great I've been using it for almost two weeks and my skin looks great. I'm researching now to see if it affects the surrounding areas because for some strange reason my skin just looks light er and more toned. For a better effect scrub well when u bathe and after it dries moisturise your skin with a good lotion vitamin e is really good. Keeping your skin clean and well moisturised should give you the full effect. But its great!!
