I can ping an address, but browser doesn't work
I can ping www.yahoo.com, but when I put the address in my browser, I get page not found, the same error on both my browsers - IE and netscape,
I uninstalled my virus software, and still same error.
My other computer works fine going through the same router and modem.

Can I reset my socks somehow??
    Thanks, steve

Here are a couple of things you need to check.

Are you picking up a valid IP address ?
Start > Run > type CMD > in the black box type IPCONFIG.

You should have an address in this format 192.168.x.x where x is a number.
If its 169.254.x.x this means you are not picking up a valid IP address.
    A reboot should fix this.

Are you running any sort of firewall software on this machine as this may be blocking port 80, the HTTP port, hence blocking your browser connection.

Pleaase let us know if any of these things make a difference.

Try purging your cache. That often clears up that problem.

Do you mean your Winsock? The Winsock is instrumental in plugging into the Internet. If you delete it, it was probably recreated fixing the problem.
