    Mold smell in drain
We have a very strong smell of mold coming out of the drain in our bathtub. So far we have poured bleach down the drain, we've poured drain cleaner for plastic pipes down the drain, we've cleaned the drain. The smell just keeps coming back. The only way to stop the smell from filling the entire house is to close the drain.

We are on a cement slab so of course we are very nervous about this problem. Any idea of what it could be from? We don't perceive any leaks anywhere. We do have a septic tank but this is the only drain that is smelling.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Bathroom smells can be tricky, they tend to float around and make you think they are coming from different locations. However, if closing the drain stops the smell then you have pinned it down. Try 1/2 cup of table salt mixed with 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain followed by a cup of vinegar, watch the action. Allow to sit over night a flush with a bucket or very hot water. Back to you.

We tried the receipe you gave and it still smells. Very moldy and only when the drain is open. We've been keeping the drain closed except when we use the shower which is an every day event. Do you think it could be a broken pipe? Please tell me no!

    Thanks,
