Most women have a 28-day ovarian cycle. Counting, the cycle starts the first day of your period, the day you start bleeding. Fourteen days after that first day, we ovulate (an egg is released.) Fourteen days after that we usually start a new period and the cycle starts over.

If you want to get pregnant, sperm ideally would have access to the egg on or around the 14th day of the cycle. Five days before, on or after is usually when pregnancy occurs. The woman's body temperature (checked daily at the same time) goes up when she is ovulating. The ovulation kit is designed to make it easy to tell when the woman is fertile.

    Hope this helps.

If you are actively trying to get pregnant, your first step should be to visit your doctor to get a pre-pregnancy check up. They will do bloodwork to make sure all your hormones are at the right levels to achieve pregnancy.

You should also start on a prenatal vitamin.

An ovulation predictor kit is a test you take to determine when you should ovulate and thus be most fertile. It detects a LH surge your body releasing right before the release of your egg. It will help you narrow down when you are most fertile and most likely to be able to conceive.

I really would set an appt with your doctor first.

If you have been actively trying to get pregnant for over a year, you may need your doctor to step in and help set up a plan of action.

    Good luck!
