Once the child is adopted your financial responsibility ceases.

Is it an actual legal adoption? Or just custody?

    If it's custody--you keep paying.

    If it's adoption, you don't.

How did it not help? Until the adoption is finalized you are responsible for supporting the child, Afterwards you aren't. Unless there is a court order saying anything different that's they way it goes.

    Melpj,
Perhaps you misunderstand. In basic terms, Scott is saying that once the child is adopted (no longer yours) you do not ("ceases") have to pay.

    I wish your child well.
