My toilet was leaking from around the base, so I removed it from the floor to replace the wax seal. With the toilet removed, I noticed that the flange was damaged. The metal ring was almost completely rusted out and the flange itself is cracked. I went to Home Depot and asked about replacement. Since the sewer pipe and flange are made of PVC, the guy told me that I would have to chip away the old one with a hammer and screwdriver (Its a pain, but he's been doing it for years). After several minutes, I was able to get the old flange out, but when I went to put in the new one, I found that the ID of the sewer pipe is 3-1/2". This is a problem for me because, no matter where I look, I am unable to find a flange that will fit inside the sewer pipe. It seems that the only sizes they make are 3" and 4". The 4" is the same diameter as the sewer pipe and the 3" is too small. Anyone have any ideas?

I wish I were there to inspect but I think you have a 3" pipe with a PVC flange. When you chiseled out the flange you may have only removed the horizontal plane of the flange and left the verticle collar. Just a guess but look to see how thick the pipe appears. It should be no thicker than a pencil at most.

I'll try to take pictures tonight, but I'm pretty sure that this isn't the case, the surface is pretty clean, I've removed all of the glue and taken off the collar. My problem is that a 3" flange is too small (wobbles around and the 4" flange is almost the same diameter of the drain pipe. Is there any epoxy that I could use to fill the gap around a 3" flange if I used that?

Measure the inside diameter of the pipe. Oatey makes a Twist-n-Set that fits iunside a 3 or 4" pipe and then a meopreme cooalr expands to seal when you tighten the three internal screws, $18.
