    Baseboard thermostat
The current thermostat does not let me regulate temp. (probably bad!! )So I replaced it with a new one First thermostat has four wire but only two are used. There are only two wires in the wall. I put in a new thermostat. Had it down to 50(so it was off) also has a switch for off it was off also. Turned power back on and the baseboard heater came on. Just like the thermostat wasn't even there. So I figured I had bought a bad new thermostat. So I replaced it also. Same result. Currently have old thermostat in the wall again. So heater is either on or off. Real pain in the neck. Went to Ace hardware asked no result for problem, went to Home Depot no result for problem, went to Electric store forgot name no result. Also had electrician! There and still no result for problem. This is not rocket science. What is the problem the thermostat worked before now it don't. There are only two wires to connect. Red and black---in wall white and black. Went black to black and red to white. Thought that current thermostat was 220 but only one side is wired and has only had one side wired. Could there be a ghost in the wall? Maybe a little artesian or gremlin messing with the wires got me!! Do you have an answer for this problem??

With a double pole thermostat that has four wires, there are two switches inside. One switch closes instantly as soon as the stat is turned on. The other switch closes as the room needs heat.

So, you either figure out which switch is which, and use only the thermostatically controlled switch, or get yourself a single pole stat.
