I planned to use the answer for a different question (different models) but each update is specific to the vaio model.
The TV says no signal but I see my desktop for a split second
Please help

You may need to make sure that the resolution settings on the Laptop are compatible with what the TV will accept. If your Laptop is set on 1920 x 1080p and you hook it up to a TV that only accepts 1080 x 720p, then it's likely to just refuse the signal and not scale it. The scaling is usually only applied to non-PC based signals such as TV, DVD etc..
The TV's manual will tell you which resolutions it will accept as an input.

And also, you do have to use the PC-Input D-sub connection. If you are trying to use another connection to the TV, that may be the problem since those other input connections generally work off other frequencies than that of your PC.
