The title of a book (also a movie I think) that includes the words, "Before Dying".. maybe Lessons Before Dying? A young man is convicted of murder and sentenced to death. A pastor is counseling him in prison.

Could it be A Lesson Before Dying? The person who visits him is a schoolteacher, not a pastor, however.
