HI, I need some good professional advise. My toilet was leaking and I removed it to find that the toilet flange was broken on one side. The flange and lower pipe appear to be cast iron 4 inch. I must replace some of the damaged flooring but am at a loss as to how to remove the cast iron flange from the cast iron pipe and then what will I have to replace it with? The flange itself does not seem to be bolted to the floor in any way.

They sell repair flanges for this purpose. The price for a repair flange is around $10. These are sometimes called split flanges.

Nick, (Lotta) gave you good advice. You can repair the broken slot without having to pull and replace the entire flange. Just slip the repair slot under the old cast iron flange, reset the toilet and you're back in business. Here's what you're looking to buy. Good luck, Tom

Thanks gentlemen for your responses. I purchased a flange repair ring for 9 bucks it goes completely around the old broken flange and is screwed to the floor. I also understand that there is a fix where you can install a flange that fits down inside the old flange and pipe that expands onto the inner surface of the pipe by way of 3 allen screws. My plumber friend suggested also to replace by cutting off the cast pipe about a foot down then putting a rubber hub onto it and running pvc up. I am opting for the less expensive and invasive approach. Now to rip up some floor.:)
