    Reaching maximum water pressure
Hi. I'm having difficulty reaching 50psi in my water pump. It reaches 40psi and just continues to run. I've adjusted the air pressure in the pressure tank, but that didn't work. The tank had no air pressure when I checked it earlier today. I followed the procedure listed on the air tank to get accurate pressure (drained down the water pressure and rebuild). What could be the problem? The pump is 3 years old and I've never had this problem before.

Is this a submersible pump or a jet pump?

It's a jet pump in the basement.

What is the cut in pressure for the pump? Your tank pressure should be 2# less than that, so if it is 30#, then your tank pressure (at the valve at the top) should be 28#.

I am assuming that everything was wonderful until recently. Was any other work done on the well/pump other than you resetting your pressure tank? The fact that the tank had NO pressure would lead a person to suspect that the bladder in the tank has ruptured. How old is the tank?
