Installing Honeywell RTH6300B from an older 7 wire Honeywell. PROBLEMS
Hello everyone, I am new here. I found this site which trying to troubleshoot my problem. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated. Basically I have an older honeywell programmable thermostat with 7 wires attached. They are as follows...

    C - Black wire
    L - Blue wire
    R- Red wire
    W2 - brown wire
    W1 - Yellow wire
    o/B - Orange wire
    G - Green

The problem is the new thermostat only calls for 4-5 wires as follows...

    G
    W o/B
    Y
    R
    RC (if needed)

I am having problems figuring out which ones are needed and what to put where. Has anyone encoutered a problem like this before?

    Thanks in advance :)

Sounds like you have a heat pump system, and the new stat is only good for standard heat and cooling system.

You need to become more familiar with what your heat pump has in addition to a standard heating/cooling system, such as aux heat, reversing vales, and find a stat that will work.

Here is a chart from Honeywell that may help you choose the proper thermostat:
