    Briggs and Stratton rewind
On my Briggs and Stratton 5 horse engine the rewind "catches" while the engine is running and the starter rope shoots out and it squeaks.

The engine runs a generator and has a horizontal crank shaft.

There seems to be very little wear on the rewind mechanism .

I am wondering how much to lubricate the shaft and with what so as not to create "drag" and make problem worse.

Tom, just lubricate until it is "wet". If the steps I told you before doesn't work, you'll have to replace the starter.

I found out that the ratchet where the balls catch when pulling the starter rope were worn and slightly flared out leaving a small burr that was dragging on the rubber seal on the end plate.

Carefully fileing burr off solved the problem.

Thank you for youir prompt help! :D
