Is penicillin allergy a predictor for SJS with Lamictal
I am a 37 year old male. When I was 9 I had an allergic reaction to ampicillan which included a full body rash and peeling of my upper torso especially my hands/palms. That's all I remember about it and I don't have access to the medical records to know if there was a positive diagnosis of Stevens Johnsons Syndrome (SJS) or not.
My doctor and I believe that I should begin taking Lamictal. My concern is whether a previous presentation of SJS when I was young increases the likelihood having this as a side-effect from Lamictal.
If the chances are the same either way, and my understanding is that each onset of SJS tends to be compounding in severity, how would I know at the earliest instance that there was a problem?
Any thoughts would be helpful. Especially pointers to studies.
Thanks,
