I just replaced the float and flapper in 2 toilets. Now they sound really loud as they fill. What did I do wrong? If we turn the water pressure down the noise decreases, but then it takes a long time to fill. Thanks.

Were you working on a kohler toilet or a kohler or american standard one piece toilet?
It is a Mancesa 6.0 lpf
I am guessing the float is the fill valve. The original fill valve could have been made specially to be quiet. It has flow restricters inside the fill valve.
Thank you, Doug. The float is attached to the fill tube, yes. So, it's probably just a noisy fill set-up, huh? That stinks. I just want to qualify something - I may do it myself to save money, but it also empowers me to take charge of home repairs that can handle. Maybe this was one for a pro. Who knew? I do, also hire professionals on occasion. I had a pro install a hot water heater today.
Thanks for your replies.
What brand of fill valve do you have? Fluidmaster makes a silent fill valve also. It has a flow restrictor built in.
I did not use a disclaimer when I first came here. Since I currently own and operate a plumbing business in the atlanta metro area I felt the need to protect myself from an individual that used my responses in error and wanted to sue me. It is not a personal attack on anyone. It is simply a disclaimer for protection.
The fill valve is Fluidmaster - bought at Home Depot. Perhaps it needs some adjustment? For the time being I just turned down the water flow on the wall. It is much quieter, now. I can probably live with that. Thanks for all your help!
If all else fails you can try to add an adhesive thin foam weather strip to the top lip of the tank. It will not show once the lid is in place and it will significantly muffle the sound.
Fluidmaster also offers a silent version
