I am 33 years old. When I was 18, I wrote a check for my college tuition and due to a fallout with my parents over my grades from the previous semester, they never put the funds into my account and the check bounced. I didn't handle the matter immediately and I ended up having to go to the sheriff's office to deal with it. The check was around $550 and in the state of Georgia, anything over $500 is a felony. When I was at the sheriff's office, I was fingerprinted and I believe they took a mug shot. Then my Dad and I paid the clerk for the amount of the check plus some fees (I think) and we left. I never went to court and never heard of the matter again. This is the only legal problem I have ever had. I've had several jobs that did background checks and nothing has turned up. However, it makes me uneasy to think that this is on my record somewhere. Do I qualify to have my record expunged in Georgia?

If you have had background checks done before and nothing turned up, then I wouldn't worry about it.
