I have a Reliance water heater (Aug 95) it is leaking from the TPR valve at a constant pace.
I have done a bit of research and it suggest to replace the valve. Is this a difficult job? Someone commented that it's an explosion waiting to happen

Everything else seems to be working great - but the age makes me wonder if it should be replaced.

It's probably time to replace the heater. You didn't say whay fuel it uses. Speedball makes water heaters last nearly forever.

Replacing a TPR isn't hard, but your probably just buying time.

Take a pic of the valve and post using "go advanced" so we can see how difficult it is.

Hey! If it ain't broke , don't fix it!! My water heater's a 30 gallon one element heaterv that was built into the counter top when the house was built in 1954. ( Shows you what flushing your heater on a regular basis can do) Do you have a sprinklerr system with a backflow preventer installed out next to the water meter? ( I need this answered! )
Keep the heater, change the valve.. Most valves are located on top of the heater, but if it's on the side then shut down the power to the heater and open up a hot water faucet to relieve the vacume amd, if the valve's on the side of the tank then drain the tank down below it and if it's located on top you just have to open up a faucet.
Un hook the discharge pipe from the valve and unscrew it. Wrap the threads of the replacement in Teflon Tape and install the new valve. Hook the discharge pipe uo and that's all there there' is to it. Turn the water and power back on and you're back in business. Good luck, Tom
