Is anyone else surprised by the abrupt rise in the Huckabee polling ? The new CNN national poll shows Rudy and McCain slightly down, Romney up and Huckabee way up since last poll.
Giuliani 24%
Huckabee 22%
Romney 16%
McCain 13%
Thompson 10%

I understand that evangelicals were looking for an alternative to Rudy and Romney . But I think the only existing candidate who could fuse all the factions of the Reagan coalition is Fred Thompson . The nomination is his for the taking... if only he really wanted it. :(
Yesterday it was reported that the Dems would love to face off against the Huckster and that they are holding fire against him . Clearly they think he is the weakest legit candidate in the Republican field. Drudge reported thatDRUDGE REPORT FLASH 2007®Quote:

It's easy to see why.. According to CNN poll he would lose by double digits to any of the Democrats.
For both parties electability is going to trump the base's concerns this year .
In keeping with the electability theme... National Review officially endorsed Mitt Romney for the Republican nominee yesterday .

I'm not sure I agree with their argument but I would have no problem voting for him . I'm not sure I could say the same about Huckabee.
