I am attempting to install 2 Win OS in 2 different hard disks. I have all partitions of the 1st HDD in NTFS format and 2nd HDD in FAT32. I plan to boot in XP from the 1st HDD and ME on 2nd HDD. However, so far I can only instal both in the 1st hard disk. Advice appreciated.

If you try to install WinME on the second hdd now, you will remove any possibility of getting into XP as WinME will overwrite the boot.ini for itself..
You need to install the oldest OS first on the Primary drive and then install XP on the second hard-drive.. XP's boot manager program will adjust the boot.ini file to give you the option as to which os you want to boot into..
Trying to go at it your way will simply have you back here wondering why you can't get into XP!

I wholeheartedly agree with SESaskDFC, but I must ask why do you want to install Win ME as it's the worsest operating system Micor$oft as ever made??
My advice would be not to bother with ME and format both your disc's to NTFS and install XP only.
Let me add my disdain for Win ME as well. Plus I believe all 9.x versions of Windows need to be installed on your C drive. However, XP can be installed on any drive. So you really need to install Me (ugh) on C then add XP.
But if you really need a Win 9x version you would be better off with 98SE.
I gree with Ben,and Scott.ME was just awful.Changes, such as the "removal" of DOS, crippling of DOS system utilities (scandisk had difficulties finishing on bootup, sys C: never worked correctly in emergencies, system file checker was hidden or didn't even exist.. etc).. made Windows Me a pain to repair. It was Microsoft's "latest idea" to "remove DOS", but the fact remained that Windows Me was the same technology MS had been dispatching for years.Gates and co should have simply brought out 98 Third Edition to tidy people over,before releasing XP,which has also had problems over the years,but that's another story.
Many people use ME without any problems; perhaps some still prefer it.
Perhaps some have tried XP on hardware which runs ME just fine, and have decided to have the option of taking the old racer out for a spin, no matter how snazzy the Hummer may be. And no matter how snotty the neighbor's might get.
Perhaps some have software and/or hardware only accessible from within the 9x family.
Perhaps some don't take too kindly to the phone-home antics of XP.
Whatever the case, very little sophistication is exhibited by denigrating the content of another's question.
The first responder gave some great insight; Mama (I mean Microsoft) has a KB article on this very topic: Article ID 306559 (previously published under Q306559).
I, too, have a dual-boot with XP and ME, on separate drives, coexisting quite well.
Works for ME (pun intended).

If you read most of the media, you will see that Win Me is almost universally put down. From when it was released, it was panned. I don't doubt that many people are using it without problem, but that doesn't change the reaction.
No one was denigrating the content of the asker's question. All that was done was to offer advice that Win Me is not the best choice for a Win 9x/Win XP dual boot.
I sincerely hope that jwhw123 was served by the Help Desk responses which dealt with how to achieve the goal of dual-booting XP and ME.
I regret having editorialized somewhat in my own response.
Perhaps at some other time, maybe on some other thread, we could all reconvene and swap war stories, upgrade frights, and opinions about "universal pans" and the usefulness thereof.
I just don't think it's necessary or desirable to do any of that here, and I don't think jwhw123 will be well served by continuing it.
I appreciate your input, Scott, but I got to get back to work. Hopefully, this is all OBE now anyway.
