Hi everyone,

I have an old heating system, oil burner/boiler forced hot water with domestic water coil tank attached.
Lately, the potable water has been running lukewarm at best in the showers and is no longer acceptable.

I've been told it's probably corrosion in the copper coils in the Everhot 8 gallon tank and that it can be replaced. I'm wondering if this is the best solution or if it would be better, more cost efficient to upgrade to some type of storage tank?
I live in Massachusetts by the way, does that make a difference?

If your heating system is as old as you suspect, then replacing it with a new one rated at least 95% efficient will save you in the long run.

You will be hard pressed to find a 95% efficient oil boiler.
Replace the tank for now to get you buy.
Then do some research for a new boiler.
Get at least 2 estimates for all work.

What are the merits of the small tank coil water heater vs. the storage tank water heater?

You will loose more energy with a large storage tank. Now with that said it really depends upon how all the equipment is installed.
