    Washer stopped draining and working
Today my washer stopped working. It stopped on the spin cycle and it never drained. Now I have a washer full of clothes and water. I tried to think of all the logical explinations and I reset the fuse, I checked for kinks in the drain hose and I checked to see if any clothes were stuck in the drain and so far nothing has worked. Any suggestions?

It's probably a valve or control. You might try an appliance repair book from the library, but I don't predict an easy fix. I'd call the repairman and watch him close so you can learn a bit about his diagnosis method for future use.

Is the motor running when it should be pumping? If not, you need to identify the wire that should be hot in the pump cycle and trace it back to the timer. Identifying it means finding and interpreting a schematic which may not be easy. Maybe best start looking for a broken wire at the motor or timer. Sometime they are broken inside the insulation. Check any sharply bent place and see if it is too flexible.

The motor must not only be running, but a solenoid must shift to engage the pump to the motor. It will be sort of a cylinder mounted near where the drain hose comes out with a couple of wires to it. Sometimes a thump with a screwdriver handle will make it operate. That also helps identify it as the problem.

If you are up to a little adventure, try opening up the washer and see what you find. Unplugging it first makes it much less daring. Post back with what you find, and I will try to help you in the next step.
