I am sorry but I am not familiar with the breed name Hashound. Did you mean a mini dachshund?

Labman has a link that I am sure he will post, that will allow you to assess your dog's weight. If you are still having trouble figuring it out, I suggest you get with your vet on this. He would be the best person to help you with the assessment. If you are talking about a dachshund, you are right to be concerned. It is very important that you keep his weight under control. Their spines can't handle excess weight and as he ages, he may lose the ability to walk.

Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest.
You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is
Different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog
Must have its food adjusted to its individual needs. Here is a link to a good illustrated guide,

I have actually been trained in using the method. I feel quite confident in my assessments. Until you become familiar with using it, it is always good to have the vet confirm your opinion.

Tomorrow night is called a party, but my Xanthe's body condition will be checked. I am sure she will be OK. My vet thought she was in good shape when I had her in on Wednesday.
