Yes, you will need a new dip tube and tools to take the cold water connection apart. Shut the water at the cold water inlet and open a hot water faucet to relieve pressure. The dip tube's located directly beneath the cold water inlet on the heater. Once you have removed the cold water inlet connection the dip tube's the white plastic flange setting on btop of the threads. Pull it our and replace it. Reconnect the cold water and turn the pressure on and check for leaks. Now flush out the heater to remove any bits of plastic tube before it gets sucked up in the hot water system. Let me show you how to flush, (not drain) your heater.
For long life and fewer troubles you should keep your heater clear of mineral build-up by flushing on a regular schedule. Attach a hose to the boiler drain at the bottom of the tank. With the pressure on, open the boiler drain and let it run until the water runs clear. You will see a spurt of red,(rust) followed by white or yellow grains,(lime or calcium carbonate). This shouldn't take more then a few minutes. Do this monthly to keep it clear. Don't forget to flush it out every month. Your heater will thank you for it. Hope this helps, Tom
