Received a letter saying I was being charged for a theft crime?
Got a letter in the mail saying I was involved in a theft and being charged. Even though I have not been involved in anything or arrested nor do I have any clue about what they are talking about. The letter just said that I was under investigation for a theft that happened and if I don't reply that will reflect my side of the situation before they press charges (who is pressing charges I'm not sure since it doesn't say)

. First the only the thing I can think of is I sold my car to two young guys about a month back and if they didn't get the title of the car switched right away then they did something in the car it would come back to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't they have to arrest me or pick me out of a line up or something before they can say hey this guy is guilty let's press charges. It says for me to go talk with them (which is what I plan on doing I just wanted some other advice or insight on this first) I edit video for professional athletes and I am constantly in and out of town and very busy if I don't get time to go down there can I really be arrested for something like this? Thanks in advance very much.

    Hello RVR:

I don't know what to tell you to DO. I absolutely know what to tell you NOT to do, and that's talk to them.

Actually, I DO know what to do. Hire a lawyer.

First who sent you the letter, the police the DA, the police and DA are the only ones that can press charges,

And unless you live in Canada, I have never heard of them sending you a letter.

    1. don't make any statements to anyone without an attorney
    2. don't make any statemetns wtihout an attornye
    3. and if you forget follow number one above

    Hello again, R:

Yeah, I was wondering about that. I have never been arrested by letter. Did it tell you to HIT THE FLOOR and put your hands behind your back?? Did the letter STAND on your head??

Yeah, I think a letter is better...

Thanks guys I appreciate the feedback. I am assuming it's the DA but not sure. I think I will just wait and see what happens. I must say it is a chicken way of arresting people (imo) What if I just return letter to sender like it's the wrong address? You think that will just piss them off? Thanks again
