Rubber hose smell under kitchen sink
How can I get rid of a rubber hose smell under the kitchen sink (without replacing the rubber hose or gasket)? I recently had my kitchen sink and countertop upgraded. I hired a plumber to hook up the new faucet and reconnect the disposal, and piping under the sink. A few days later I noticed an acrid oder in the cabinet under the sink. I tried spray, and using a fan to disperse the smell. After a month, the smell is still there. I brought in the countertop installers and they thought it was a rubber hose smell, and I agreed. I brought back the plumber and he said he thought it was a rubber hose smell (without prompting). To my surprise he said he did not replace the rubber hose coming from the dishwasher hose and connecting to the disposal. He said he did not even carry that type of hose on his truck. The only other rubber we could find was a gasket around the drain fixture on the underside of the sink. This was a drain that I bought from ACE. The one the plumber had on his truck was exactly the same. If I can't replace the gasket, how can I seal the smell. I just tried coating it with silicone and it is not working very well. Thanks.
