well, the percentage would be expressed as a proportion. As an example 10% would be written as the fraction ten over one-hundred.
Now if you want to find the value that is 10% of a particular number (N) you would set the problem up as two equivalent fractions.
One fraction 10 over 100 is equal to blank over (N).
In order to find the answer for the blank, you have to take 10 times (N) and divide that number by 100.
