How would you write the equation and balance it?
Potassium = K
Chlorine = Cl
Nitrate = NO3
Silver = Au
chlorine has a valency of -1
potassium has a valency of +1
Nitrate has a valency of -2 (please check first!)
Silver I'm not too sure. Check your periodic table for the amount of electrons in it's outer shell.
Once you have these values you should be able to draw up a balanced equation.
Actually the (IV) lets you know that it is sharing 4 electrons. And Silver is Ag(gold is Au... I get those mixed up too). Therefore the compound will have a formula of Ag(NO3)2. So you have a double displacement reaction. Since they told you that one of the compounds is a precipitate you should be sure to have the phase or state of each compound stated. Final equation... 4KCl + Ag(NO3)2 ---> AgCl4 + 2(K2NO3)
