I was involved in a car accident, there was no police report. But the two officers that arrived there took both of our information and exchanged it for us. I did not get that other guy's insurance policy number but I got his drivers license number, address,licence plate number. I have liability insurance and my insurance company doesn't want to help me they say that all the information I provided them with is limited and now my car is non driveable and I need someone to pay for this since it wasn't my fault what can I do?

You would have been protected by a police report. This is what the insurance company wants to see, everything else is heresay, unless of course you had witnesses that the accident wasn't your fault and if so, maybe they can come forward.

Why didn't the police fill out an accident report. That is usually the first thing they do.

Liability insurance doesn't pay for your car to be fixed. It pays for the OTHER guy's car. HIS liability insurance should pay for YOUR car. If you have his NAME and the name of his insurance company, file a claim with them.

Whether an Accident Report is filed by the Police depends on the extent of the damage and injuries - and the Police Report is also hearsay unless they actually saw the accident.

Did you have comprehensive collision? If you only had liability then that doesn't cover your car. You need to contact the other drive and get his insurance info.

I finally worked in Ontario again and was advised by the Police that when an accident occurs which does not involve serious injuries:

If it is safe to do so, remove vehicle from the roadway.
Exchange information with the other involved parties, including independent witnesses. Obtain names, addresses, phone numbers, insurance and vehicle particulars.
As soon as possible, attend with your vehicle at the Police Reporting Centre.
Bring your documentation with you to the Police Reporting Centre, i.e.. Drivers licence, ownership, and insurance.
Other Vehicle/Driver Information form to keep in your car for easy gathering of information if you are involved in a motor vehicle accident.

Police will attend collisions involving:

Injury or death;
Criminal activity, examples:
Impaired driving, stolen vehicle, assault;
Federal, provincial, or municipal vehicles;
Vehicles transporting dangerous goods;
Damage to private, municipal, or highway property

They do NOT come to every accident scene and they do NOT write a report unless the accident meets the above criteria.

Perhaps different Townships have different "rules" but the above was given to me by the OPP.

Ok, whose fault is the accident ? If the fault is yours, you pay for your own car repair, you chose to buy the cheaper liability only insurance so you don't have full coverage, so if this is your fault, no one but you pays for the damages, they would pay for the other guys damages.

If this was the other persons fault, contact them for their insurance info, something that you should have had before his address. And if he will not provide it, just sue them in small claims court for your damages.
