    Did I have a Miscarriage?
22, Married. Last menses 10/21/07... started having signs and symptoms of being pregnant on 11/01/07 (nausea, fatigue, breast tenderness, increase urination etc.) Took HPT on 11/28/07 because I was nine days late. Test negative. Saturday 12/1/07 started very minimal faint spotting. Later in evening started having slight pain in lower abdomen. Went to the restroom passed... what sort of looked like a clot but it didn't have consistency as normal clot. Took HPT this am 12/2/07 negative. I am still having the signs/symps of pregnant. But my abdomen has dull achy feeling... not necessarily pain but I'm aware of it. Since passing the clot, I have not bled at all. What's going on? Could it have been a miscarriage? What should I do next?

You know, it is really hard to say. You said the clot didn't have the consistency of a normal clot - did it look like there was tissue in it?
I would call your doctor and tell them what is going on.

Yes, I believe it did. The only problem I have is... I don't have a physician because I don't have health insurance. What do I do?

You can go to your local health department or a planned parenthood.

You know, I don't want to say you did or you didn't. Because, I just don't know.
I can tell you that when I miscarried 2 years ago, I passed a very large clot (huge) that was filled with tissue. I was early along, didn't even know I was pregnant. (I consider that a gift from God, because I would have lost my mind if I had known and started planning)

The best, best thing you can do is contact a doctor. As J_9 said, you can go to the local health department, a doctor on call facility or planned parenthood.

The only thing is... I went to planned parenthood last year because I thought I was pregnant and they charged me for all of my services. They said my husband and I made too much money... what do you do?

You set up a payment plan. We have insurance and it doesn't cover everything. We have a child that is healthy, but has some issues that cost a lot of money. We can't pay these things in one lump sum. Payment plan!
Now, I don't know if planned parenthood will take a payment plan, maybe. But if not, find someone who will.
Do not risk your health because of financial reasons. Believe it or not, doctors will work with you. All of ours have!

You are a married adult.. which means you also have responsibilities. Your body is the only one you'll have for the rest of your life and it is your responsibility to take care of it so that it can continue to take care of you.

You can wait for your next period, or further painful symptoms, possible infection - and possible infertility due to infection that could be treated too late. OR, you could do what J_9 suggests and see a professional for reassurance.

Which would a responsible person do?

Good luck dear, and keep us posted.

What is a scanning? By that do you mean an exam?

I'm sure that is what Dr. Sanju meant. i.e. blood test, ultrasound, etc. It is important, more important than money, for you to get an exam and be reassured that there are no residual tissues there that can infect and cause more problems which will be more costly and could make you unable to conceive later when you want children again.

Like I said before, your body is your most valuable and important asset, so don't let yourself be negligent with it. If you already had a sick baby, you'd already have been to the doctor, or what about your husband if he got sick... Set your priorities and find a healthcare professional right for you.

And you know this how without knowing her complete medical history and without doing an exam or blood levels?

If, and I stress IF you had a miscarriage it could be one called an incomplete abortion (miscarriage) which basically means that some of the products of conception may still be retained within the uterus. If this is the case, and you don't get medical attention, it can lead to a multitude or problems, infection being the least of your worries. It can lead to a disorder called DIC (Disseminated intravascular coagulation), which can be life threatening.

I am not purposely trying to scare you here, but rather I am trying to show you just how important it is to get medical treatment whenever you think you may have had a miscarriage.

Is going to be safe to wait until morning to go the Dr.s? I have an appointment at 0900 and am currently asymptomatic. Afebrile no n/v, minimal bleeding. I have passed another "clot-like" item... looking more like tissue than clot. This one was smaller than the first. Will it be okay to go in the am or should I go now?

What does this have to do with her question on whether she had a miscarriage

Miscarriages/spontaneous abortions will happen to almost every sexually acitve woman at least once in her life. These are your body's way of protecting itself from a dangerous or genetically "bad" pregnancy. Most women are unaware of these miscarriages/spontaneous abortions and go through life blissfully unaware that they were ever pregnant in the first place. As a paramedic and nurse, I see these types of things often. What you had fits the signs and symptoms of a miscarriage and I urge anyone with similar symptoms to seek medical help immediately. Not having an examination after such an episode can be dangerous: you can bleed, have clots, or become sterile as a result of bleeding or infection. Undiagnosed abdominal pain (not those associated with meses) is the most important sign for a woman and is a true medical emergency in the eyes of nurses and paramedics.

Thank you for asking. I am doing much better. I have since experienced minimal pain. The doctors say that everything looks okay and I should be just fine. They say that this is more likely to happen again though. I hope and pray not, but we will have to wait see. Thank you again. It's so nice to that even a complete stranger cares.
