How can I request a 1040 tax statement from last year?
I have recently moved and cannot find my tax statement from 2006. I need this information to obtain residency in order to go to college. I have called the IRS, but the only documents they have faxed me are just transcripts, not official statements. I filed through H&R Block's Taxcut online EZ file. Please help!

The transcripts should serve your purpose. Check with the college. Else you can get copy of your return.
Form 4506 is Request for Copy of Tax Return. You will get copy of tax return file by you along with all the attachments (like W2, 1099.. ). For each return the charges are $39 and IRS takes about 60 days to complete your request. In the Form 4506 you can also authorize a third party to receive the return.

First, ask the college if they will accet the tax transcript. They probably WILL accept it in lieu of the actual return.

If not, the tax transcript can be used to reproduce a copy of your tax return using 2006 tax software. Any local tax pro can do it for you for a small fee.

Also, call H&R Block. They can probably print and mail or fax you a copy of your 2006 tax return (for a fee) if you give them your name and SSN. You can get their number from the H&R Block website you used to file.
