What would happen to a laminate floor if I get water down in the basement.

Short answer, yes. The laminate will absorb water, swell and mildew requiring a total tearout. Believe it or not carpet without backing is a safer bet. It can be dried before it mildews but both coverings can be a pain if soaked. Armstrong makes a vinyl tles strip that looks like laminate. You night want to look into that.

I agree with the first response. Yes it will destroy the floor. Not many good answers. Another option depending on purpose and use is ceramic tile floor. Most people I know who have water issues in the basement will paint the floor and have area rugs.

    Good luck
