My landlord and I are not on good terms, but the situation is tolerable. She wants me out when my lease expires. But I do not want to leave. My question is... Is it solely up to the landlord whether to renew my lease after it expires.

It depends on your location. In NJ a landlord must offer a renewal to a tenant except under certain circumstances. Tell us your location and we can check. Or, if you prefer, you can check the laws yourself by reading the sticky post at the top of the Real Estate Law forum.
