I have a three years old daughter who has a speech problem. She barely says some words such as momy, dad, water and other single words. However, she can not say sentences not even phrases (2 words to say something). I'm really concerned about this because I don't know if this will become worse. Although she has showed some improvement since she was younger (she didn't say a word until she was 2), she speaks much less than her friends of the same age.
She doesn't have hearing or brain problems because she has been under these kinds of tests and the results are good. So I wonder if this would become worse or there is something else I can do?? :( :(

I have a few questions 1) does this child have siblings? And 2) Does the child just point and have things handed to her. If a child has a more gregarious sibling they often let the sibling do the talking for them. I also have a friend who just handed her daughter things when she pointed. Her mom anticipated her every want and she didn't have a need to speak.

This is the only child my wife and I have. And we try to encourage her to talk as much as we can. In fact, my daughter is going to a kindergarten where she interacts with other children of the same age. I'm sure that's helping her a lot. But I'm worried about the future. I don't know if this problem will degenerate in something much worse.

I have a 5 year old with developmental problems and although the progress has not happened right away there is an improvement. Have you involved in any occupational or speech therapy? These are things you may want to look into if you have not already. Speech therapy is very affective. At least from what I have seen.

I am not a Professional, so don't take what I say as the "truth", so to speak!
I agree with the other answer about a Speech Therapist, or some type of Professional in this area.
You can wait, and see if it improves, or you can get a Professionals opinion.
You might also consider a Child Psychologist, or someone else. It would give you a "peace of mind" knowing you are talking with a professional. They can advise you if anything needs to be done or not.

Did this child have their hearing checked? If not then hearing problems or even frequent ear infections actually can cause very severe delayed speech learning.

Most people shouldn't be concerned about speech problems until the child turns 3. Since your child is three, you need to contact your child's pediatrician or call local places like Rise and Easter Seals to find someone in your area that can evaluate your child. Some pre-schools have speech therapists that come to the school and they are free. You also want to get your child's hearing tested if you haven't done that yet. That could be an issue. My son had speech therapy until he was 6. No big deal. Most kids could use it today. Rise and Easter seals in my area only deal with kids up to the age of 3 so be sure to check with pre-schools and other developmental service places. :)
