Heat pump doesn't come on but I'm getting heat
So it all started when I bought a house in Texas and the old AC compressor needed replacing. I bought the best one they had which is a Lennox (don't know model) compressor. This thing is huge. It does have a heat pump of course. So on to the problem. My thermostat doesn't seem to have emergency heat option. When the heat is on the compressor never comes on. It's been doing this for two years. I currently rent the house out so I called and checked to make sure it is not running. So I'm thinking maybe it's stuck on emergency heat due to incorrect wiring? No wonder I was getting 300-400 electric bills during winter and the winter here is REALLY mild. I didn't think anything of it because I didn't know anything about a heat pump. YES I am sure it has a heatpump. I would call the AC people but they are closed for the weekend and today.

So in summary with all heat pump units, except for ones with gas, the compressor is suppose to come on if you switch to heat, correct? I can't believe I got screwed..

Compressor is first stage heat. Strait electric heat or resistance heat as it is called is second stage/emergency heat. You have been waiting a long time to get this fixed. Call the A/C people Monday when they are open because you could be opening a huge can of worms.

Thanks. I didn't even know that's how a heat pump was suppose to operate until I have one now at the new house.
