    Possible Reaction to Lepto Vaccine-
Ok, maybe I'm just paranoid, but...

Took our dog to the vet today for his lepto booster shot- he seemed fine when he came home, was playful and himself... then became really tired. Which I thought was normal, since he was tired after his distemper/parvo and initial lepto vaccine 3 weeks ago-

But now he has been sleeping ALL DAY since 12p- and he seems very weak- has a hard time getting up- he won't put any weight on his back right leg, where the shot was given- limping around... not sure if that's why he's having trouble getting up/balancing.

I went to pick him up before, as carefully as possible, and he yelped as though in pain- we've only had him for 2 months and his never made a sound like that before and it totally flipped me out.

I worry excessively about him, and I know that... so it's possible that this may be normal after getting a vaccination- just soreness or general tiredness... but when should I begin to get concerned, when should I contact the vet? His current vet doesn't have a 24 hr number, so I'm planning on calling in the am if he hasn't improved... do you think I should give it more time? Is this normal?

Please give me some advice- I've read all this stuff about pets dying from vaccines and now I'm super-paranoid.

    Thanks!

Call your vet and describe the symptoms. They can give you an idea of whether it's normal, or you need to bring the dog back in. And, unless this is a really exceptional vet, you might want to consider finding one that at least has someone you can call after normal hours. I don't expect them to be open 24 hours a day, but I do expect to be able to get some one in an emergency.

Molly reacted this way with she had her Lepto shot. The vet said if she started vomiting, or acting weird that we were to call him. He also said it is typical for them to be lethargic for a day or two, and they might seem like their muscles are sore. Of course molly was a miniture rat terrior, and her body weight is small. The lower the body mass the more likely there is to be a reaction.

If you're horribly worried, I would suggest calling the after hour vet clinic [if you have one]

Call the vet this morning. My vet uses a combo DLCPP and none of my puppies have had any reaction to it. Let me assure you although severe, life threatening reactions do happen, they are very rare.

Took the dog to the vet this am- he is small, a pomapoo, so maybe he's having a harder time because of that.
The vet said that it could be a mild allergic reaction, or just the way he reacts to it due to his size-
Since he hasn't been vomiting or having any other symptoms, the vet just gave him an anti-inflamatory medication called deramax and said to give it to him and watch him for a few days.
He seems a little more like himself this morning- but I'm glad I got him checked out-
Thanks so much for all your advice and feedback- I appreciate it!
