Can a creditor garnish my wages or take money out of my bank account?
I recently received court papers from an old credit card debt. The paper say I have 30 days to respond or judgement will be ruled in favor of creditor. I called the creditor and they will not take less than $350/month for my $4000 debt. I'm a single mother of 2 and cannot afford $350 a month. Now I'm worried that they will garnish my paycheck or get money from my checking accounts? How likely is this to happen and how long until it will happen?

Yes, the lawyers can do both... When a judgment is entered, the lawyers act quickly.

    Hello leighann

Once a judgement is entered they can attach your accounts or in some states garnish your wages. Now even though your moral obligation to pay nevers goes away it may be possible that the sol 's might come into play How old is this debt and is this the first time you have heard from them? Have you received any call or letters prior to this one? Please give us all the facts so that we can advise you
