1) a ball is held in a person's hand.

a. identify all the external forces acting on the ball and the reaction force to each.

b. if the ball is dropped, what force is exerted on is while it is falling? Identify the reaction force in this case (disregard air resistance).

Ball has following forces:

Force of gravity = mg Downward

Reaction of hand, which keeps it from falling


When ball is dropped, the only force is the force of gravity (Weight mg) making it fall.

The ball attracts the earth - but the effect on the earth is negligible.
