Here is a temporary cure. Tap on it until it starts running and move the stat switch to ON. It should keep running and you home will actually feel a bit more comfortable. The electric cost of running 24/7 are barely negligible. Now the actual fix may been the motor itself. There are usually two sets of winding in a motor, one for running and another for start up from a dead stop. I think you may have a dead spot in your start up winding. Running 24/7 may help you avoid replacement cost. You may want to consider it.
