    First its not a good idea to piggyback your question on someone else's. This can lead to confusion. You should start a new thread. So I've moved your question to its own thread.

    Second, you can't use your 401K as collateral, but most 401k plans have a loan provision.

    The banks I have talked with will not use a 401k for colletal they will only take it into consideration for figuring some of the requirement which much be met and I know of no banks which will let you use a 401k for a loan colletal
