Our 4 to 5 year old adult dog (white shepherd, siberian husky, &? Mix), adopted from our next-door neighbors when they had to move, came to live with us on 11/10/07. I had done daycare for her all last year while her master was at school. She has been content and happily sleeping in her crate since we brought her home. Early this morning she pooped in her crate and my husband found her very upset with poop smeared all over her bedding. The only change in her life was our 2 night Thanksgiving visit to my mother. Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Did you take her out right before she went to bed?

If not, then you should probably start taking her out side to potty. I understand she's not a puppy, but she might be stressed or just really had to go.

This could be an accident. More careful attention to exercising her before bedtime may help. Was it soft? If so, it could be the result of any change of diet you may have made. I would walk her around good before putting her in the crate tonight and hope for the best.

If she continues loose stools, you should check with the vet.

I agree with labman. It could be a change in diet, or she could have eaten something that disagreed with her. Check with everyone in your household to make sure they didn't slip her anything out of the ordinary. Make sure everyone understands she needs to stick with her chow only. Also make sure that there isn't anything that she might have accidentally gotten into and chewed on. Is anyone giving her rawhides or soft toys that she has torn up? One of those could be the culprit. Watch her stools today to ensure they are normal. Make sure when she is walked at night that she is allowed to fully empty her bladder and bowels. If nothing out out of the ordinary has occurred and it continues, then follow labman's advice and bring her in for a vet check.
