Kenmore refrigerator will only serve crushed ice!
Can anyone give me an idea as to what is going on? I have a Kenmore side by side refrigerator, model # 253.54703402 with ice & water in the door. After being switched to serve crushed ice a few days ago, it will not dispense cubes any longer when switched back. I tried removing the ice bin to clean and thaw it out, but no luck. Is it a switch problem or is there something simple I'm not thinking of? Thanks!

Right after I posted the question, I did another search that led me to check the back of the freezer which has a hole with a gizmo that moves up and down to turn a rod on the ice bin which bypasses the ice crusher. I moved it up and down a couple of times and it freed up (probably a little frozen) and is working as it should now, dispensing my choice of cubes or crushed ice. Maybe this post will help someone else sometime! Thanks!!

Thank you. Perfect answer. Either the gizmo that moves the rod that opens the gate was stuck, or the rod was not fully engaged in the gizmo.. But after removing the ice bin and moving the gizmo manually and ensuring the rod was engaged in the gizmo when reinserting the bin it worked perfectly. Cubes again! You've got to love the Internet...
