Very nice to meet you all! My name is Anthony, and I could really use some help. I have a Trane XL80 gas furnace that will not blow any air through the vents. The blowers fire up just fine, but the fan refuses to move. I have checked/cleaned the filter, lightly brushed/vacuumed most of the dust I saw around the motor, and still no fan rotation.I know that some motors need lubricating, but mine does not have an oil port. As I'm not very mechanically inclined, I am very reluctant to remove the fan and/or motor to investigate further. Add to that the fact that the repairman is charging me $70+ to come out and take a look. What's to stop him from bilking me if he determines that I don't know "o" from a wagon wheel about this sort of thing? Any suggestions? Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Nothing is to stop the repairman from taking advantage of you.
I would only call well respected companys to try and eliminate this possibliity.
If you blower motor is shot get ready for a big bill.

You should have went to trade school then you could fix your own stuff. LOL

Did you try turning the fan switch to on at the thermostat to see if the blower will run? If it comes on and runs its not the blower that has problems but the plus is, you can have heat by just letting the blower run all the time until you get the problem fixed.

Its 6 bolts to remove the electrical and fan housing. Pull the wires to the left and then pull the fan housing straight out carefully. Once it is out you can remove the three screws that holds the motor mount on. Remove the motor and replace with 1/3 hp or 1/2 h p for split levels. Give the serial number to the parts guy. When putting the motor mount back on make sure the fan is perfectly centered on it spindle and also make sure NOT TO OVER TIGHTEN THE SCREWS ON THE MOUNT. If you do they will strip and rattle and eventually fall off. I have experience with doing this so trust me snug is better than tight. Put the casing back on the railing on the ceiling of the box and put back electrical. If you have a 90's model trane xl 80 this is how to do it more or less.
