I wore a black dress with blue trim to my first prom and a white dress with black trim to my senior prom. Red can work, but it is kind of bright, but I don't see why your dad would have a problem as long as it's not backless or way low-cut or anything. Good luck picking one out and have fun at prom!

Something between a magenta or burgandy or a deep blue almost navy would be good colors.
